2009 KI Convention

Nashville, TN

The 2009 Kiwanis International Convention will be held in Nashville, TN starting Thursday, June 25th and ending on Saturday, June 27. The Holiday Inn Select is our official Michigan District hotel, located about two miles from the convention center. Complimentary bus transportation will be available between the convention center and our hotel. Housing reservations should be your first priority. For complete details, forms, and a schedule of events, visit the International Convention web site.

Be sure and register early to avoid late fees. Delegates should also plan to complete the required certification forms in advance. This is a separate process from convention registration. Each club should elect two delegates to attend the business sessions. Past Governors, current Lt. Governors, and Lt. Governors-Designate are all eligible to be Delegates-At-Large. Past Lt. Governors can represent other clubs within their division. Detailed information will be mailed to clubs. All delegates are expected to attend the District Caucus at 8:00 AM on Friday, June 26th in our district hotel. We will have an opportunity to ask questions about proposed changes to our By-laws and the election and qualifications of candidates for International offices.

The Michigan District banquet will be held at the Nashville Nightlife Theatre at 5:30 PM on Thursday evening, June 25th. Cost is $50 per person and limited to the first 100 who sign up. Registration deadline for the district dinner was June 8th.

Club Leadership Education

Incoming club presidents and secretaries should plan on attending the Club Leadership Education (CLE) sessions scheduled for this July and August. Consider this training as a kick start for the coming year.

The District provides trained instructors and updated materials to help you keep abreast of the lastest changes within Kiwanis. Learn the up-to-date details of the District Grading Plan, the Governor's Project and more. Using your Club Leadership Guide, you will learn to perform a Club Analysis and a Community Analysis. You will discover the basics of implementing effective Action Plans to ensure a successful year for your club. Officers will review the calendar of upcoming events, noting critical dates when reports are due and Distinguished Club Criteria must be met.

You will have an opportunity to meet other incoming officers within your division. Share information about your successful fundraising events and effective service projects with fellow Kiwanians. Your lt. governor will be presenting a summary of division goals and objectives as well.

CLE will be held on July 11th for Utica (Divisions 1, 2, 3, & 7) and Jackson(Divisions 10 & 11), July 25th for Wayne (Divisions 4, 5, & 9) and West Branch (Divisions 20, 21, & 22), August 1st for Kalamazoo (Divisions 12, 13, & 14) and Owosso (Divisions 16, 17, 18, & 19). It is very important that you make every effort to attend the session for your specific division so you can meet with your lt. governor-designate at that time. More information is available in the June/July Michigan Builder and a club mailing went out in May.
